Computing on Bitcoin #61
October 17, 2025 - Week 42

Welcome to this week’s edition of Computing on Bitcoin News, where we highlight the latest breakthroughs driving Bitcoin’s evolution as a programmable platform.
From new bridges to collaborative experiments, the momentum keeps growing, let’s dive in.

01

Sergio Lerner and Ariel Futoransky from Fairgate Labs unveiled BATTLE, a DoS-resilient, capital-efficient optimistic bridge protocol built directly on Bitcoin. The design adapts the BATTLE tournament protocol with BitVM-style FLEX components and garbled circuits, enabling large-scale, trust-minimized dispute resolution without introducing new opcodes or external consensus.

Ultimately, BATTLE demonstrates that large, permissionless committees -on the order of a thousand participants- can coordinate optimistic verification directly on Bitcoin without introducing new opcodes or external consensus. This positions BATTLE as a key building block for future Bitcoin rollups, sidechains, and interoperability protocols.

02

The BitVMX Hackathon continues! Fairgate Labs announced an extension through November 15, giving builders more time to experiment on Bitcoin using BitVMX. Developers can access resources, submit projects, and explore what’s possible.

03

Alpen Labs and the Starknet Foundation announced a collaboration to build a shared Glock verifier on Bitcoin, a public good enabling cross-system verification and interoperability.

Starknet will be the first of many reputable, mainstream systems to leverage the Glock verifier—alongside Alpen—to secure BTC deposits from their users. At the heart of this initiative is Strata, the layer that will coordinate verification across offchain systems such as Alpen and Starknet on Bitcoin. Strata will facilitate interoperability between these systems, laying the groundwork for a truly open Bitcoin financial ecosystem.

04

David Tse, co-founder of Babylon Protocol, announced a proof-of-concept showing native BTC used trustlessly as collateral to borrow on Ethereum.

05

Fairgate is gearing up for November with two special BitVMX side events in Buenos Aires, timed around LABITCONF and DEVCONNECT. Both sessions will dive into how BitVMX powers real-world Bitcoin applications, giving builders and researchers a chance to connect and explore Fairgate’s evolving protocol ecosystem.

Join us in this focused-event to explore how engineering practical solutions with BitVMX is shaping the future of disputable computing on Bitcoin.
As DEVCONNECT gets underway, start the pre-week warmup with a thorough yet relaxed update on everything BitVMX.

06

Cardano’s latest governance update under CIP-1694 marked a shift toward full community control and was accompanied by a joint demo by IOHK and Fairgate Labs, showing Cardano smart contracts running on Bitcoin via BitVMX and a UPLC-to-RISC-V compiler.

Concurrently, technical advancements included a demo by Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK) and FairGate Labs, showcasing Cardano smart contracts operating on Bitcoin via BitVMX and a UPLC-to-RISC-V compiler. This development enabled Bitcoin users to access Cardano-based tools, fueling broader discussions on blockchain interoperability.

That’s all for this week’s roundup of Computing on Bitcoin News.
Innovation on Bitcoin keeps accelerating, and we’ll be here to share the progress, ideas, and breakthroughs shaping its next chapter.
